Turning on the water supply tap for our dishwasher?

By admin

I know this seems a really silly question, but I’ve just plumbed in our dishwasher and it says on the instructions to turn ON the water supply before washing dishes. Then it says after every wash to turn off the water supply tap. The water supply tap is behind the dishwasher! How am I supposed to turn this on and off each time?

And if I leave the water supply tap ON the whole time, even when not using dishes, will water not just keep flowing into the dishwasher? Please help!!

Ok I’ve never known instructions to say to turn off the water supply after washing the dishes except in portable dishwashers (the kind you hook up to the kitchen sink) and unless the water valve on the dishwasher is broken water will not constantly flow into the washer.

It’s just the company covering their behinds in case your dishwasher develops a leak and ruins your floor. No one actually turns off the water supply after every wash (well, no one I’ve ever heard of) even if it’s under the sink where they can reach it. You do want to check for water on a regular basis since it’s new installation and an undetected leak can cause some very serious damage in the house.

They always say this, as the previous person said it is to prevent litigation. In practice nobody does this especially with the trend for built in appliances. I bet they also tell you to unplug it as well.
